When I give my boot camp ladies the option to decide on a workout theme they always come back to the same thing: let’s do a muffin top workout. When it comes to having a flat stomach and no love handles, this is the area most women want to concentrate on, but few actually do.

It’s important to know that wanting to decrease it isn’t enough… you have to work for it. Yes there are dozens of ab machines and stomach toning gear out on the market but none of them will deliver the results that you want because there is no such thing as spot reduction. Doing core moves alone is not going to provide an exercise to burn belly fat… it’s just going to tone the muscles that lay under the flab.

Your body will lose fat from all over, where it sees fit, not necessarily where you want it to melt it.

Here is what it takes to lose the belly fat… for real.

Plan Out Your Workouts. Having your workout plans in front of you when you hit the gym makes it so much easier, you know what you have to do… there is no time to waste. It allows you to work harder and have a more efficient workout. There are two specific workouts that your plan should consist or: cardio and strength training for women workouts. Paired together, they will help you increase your metabolism so you burn more body fat throughout the day and burn off that dreaded muffin top for good.

Eat A Clean Diet. The food you eat accounts for roughly 80% of how your body looks. You might see people working out hard all the time, but their bodies don’t look like it… that’s probably why. If you eat junk, your body will look like you eat junk. It’s important to look at food and eating healthy as a long term lifestyle and not a quick fix diet.

Motivate Yourself. Staying motivated is the number one issue women face when it comes to getting in shape. If you’re not seeing the results you want or something happens in your life (vacation, job, family), it’s too easy to give up on yourself and forget about your goals. First, I want you to write your goals on a sticky note and put them someplace where you can see them each day. Then jot down why you want to achieve them… how will you feel? And last but not least, prepare. Prepare your workout clothes, get your meals ready in advanced and write it on the calendar.

Following these three tips will help you drop belly fat for good. It won’t hurt to do some core strengthening exercises… here are a few of my favorite belly exercises: stability ball crunches, planks, lunges (with a twist) and leg raises.
