You don&#8217;t need any iron at all in your home workout equipment. At minimum, you need your own body mass. More than that, a few pieces of plastic will help.</p>
<p>You own body has a large variety of weights in its limbs and joints that provide plenty of options for movement. Guided and repeated movements of simply your body can supply all the <a  href="http://www.selecttechbowflex.com/strength-training/">strength training</a> you want. But to move your body with comfort and safety, you should buy a good workout mat. Padding makes most of the prone and seated activity a lot more comfortable. Shop for a mat that&#8217;s at least 3/8 inch thick. The thin yoga mats may be convenient to roll up and put under your arm for transport, but they are not thick enough to pad your body adequately.</p>
<p>There are many on-line sources for &#8220;body only&#8221; strength exercise routines. Make sure to evaluate the qualifications of the provider. There are many videos from physical therapists and certified physical trainers&#8211;you do not have to pay attention to just anyone. And though it hardly has to be stated, if what you&#8217;re doing burns, it&#8217;s fine, but if it hurts, stop! You can recognize the contrast between working muscles and damaging yourself.</p>
<p>Bodies, however, at least our own, can get boring, and boring means fewer workouts. So this is where simple resistance bands or tubes show up. These rainbow-colored bands add resistance between limbs, or can be attached to a door knob or a grip bar. They give variety and increase the strength needed to perform a movement. The bands gain in strength as the color gets darker. This means you can go a very long way in getting to your strength training objectives with only these light, very affordable, easily stored bands. Purchase them online or at any good sporting goods store. Hanging them on light plastic hooks can avoid tangles.</p>
<p>A fitness ball makes a last, inexpensive piece of <a  href="http://www.selecttechbowflex.com/best-home-exercise-equipment/">home exercise equipment</a>. Pick one that enables you sit on it with flat feet. What you do with just your body, you can intensify with these versatile balls. Think about push-ups. They are one thing with your feet planted firmly on the floor. With your feet on an unstable round surface, they are totally another. A fitness ball will challenge your balance and core stability&#8211;and they will increase.</p>
<p>A buying tip: get the ball with a pump, extra plugs (in case you damage one trying to re-inflate a flat ball) and the instruction booklet or DVD. Save yourself the frustration of not having them. A bicycle pump with a ball needle is not an equivalent.</p>
<p>&#8220;Pumping Plastic!&#8221; just doesn&#8217;t have the cachet carried by &#8220;pumping iron.&#8221; But it is just as effective, much less costly, and much less space-consuming than iron for your home exercise equipment. Eat your iron&#8211;don&#8217;t pump it.</p>

If you perform an ST routine 3 times a week, you can easily lose four or even more pounds  in a year without cutting a calorie. Better still: Lean muscles weigh more than fat, so you will have lost a lot more fat than the scale alone will show. You will lose inches, which you can measure in smaller clothing sizes.</p>
<p>Better yet, ST diminishes calorie consumption long term. All of them reduce the dangers associated with bone loss. <p>Or you can get up, grab your shorts, pick up your dumbbells, start your workout.</p>
<p>Which scenario sounds better? Obviously, doing your strength training at home. But is that a viable option? If you are an Olympic hopeful, probably not. But for everybody else, it can be fantastic. Strength training at home saves you time, gas, energy, gym fees, and frustration.</p>
<p>What does it take to get started? As a beginner, you only need yourself and maybe a floor mat. A way to watch DVDs or online videos will be helpful, too, as many home workouts are available&#8211;often free. </p>
<p>Pretty soon you will need some equipment. A good place to start is with the light, compact, and effective resistance bands or tubes. Begin with the lightest colors and gradually collect the rainbow&#8211;the darker, the stronger the resistance. Hook storage keeps them untangled and quickly accessible.</p>
<p>Most likely, you will also want dumbbells, which come in graduated weights, and are sometimes sold as sets. As your strength increases, you will need an more of dumbbells and more space to keep them in. Keeping track can become annoying. </p>
<p>A highly effective alternative to multiple dumbbell pairs are the <a  href="http://www.selecttechbowflex.com/bowflex-SelectTech-552-dumbbells/">Bowflex SelectTech 552 dumbbells</a> or their bigger brothers the <a  href="http://www.selecttechbowflex.com/bowflex-SelectTech-1090/">Bowflex SelectTech 1090</a>s. One pair of these replaces at least 15 pairs of regular dumbbells&#8211;saving both space and annoyance. In about 20 seconds with the twist of a dial you can change to any weight. A metal clip moves to pick up exactly what you dialed. Click and go. Most non-professionals will only need this one set for all their weight training for the rest of their lives. </p>
<p>Barbells at home can give you much more weight than even the SelectTech 1090s&#8211;at a cost in money, space, and potential danger. It is easy to lose control of barbells. Its best to have a spotter at hand to prevent injuries. </p>
<p>You will also generally need an incline/decline bench to use the barbells most safely. It would not hurt to use a bench with dumbbells and bands. You just don&#8217;t need it for the smaller equipment.</p>
<p>Home exercise machines, too, exist. If you have both a large space and a large budget, you may want to examine these. But you better get a home trial option to be sure it fits your space and personality. They are also widely available used from people who got them before being sure they would use them. Also remember, there is not only the purchase price, but the maintenance costs to consider. </p>
<p>You can do strength training at home. A gym may have more equipment, more camaraderie, more expert advice, and more motivating competition, but strength training at home is a lot more convenient, and counting gym fees, over time a lot less expensive.</p>

Some come with adjustable resistance band clips so you can change the resistance by adding or reducing bands for the particular exercise. With a basic resistance band set you can pay 50 USD to exercise your abs, arms, back, chest, legs and shoulders. This makes it very affordable, considering what you pay for yearly gym fees or bulky home gyms that are more expensive and less convenient.</p>
<h2>What are the benefits of resistance bands?</h2>
<p>The bands are very light and can fit inside your luggage. Very convenient piece of equipment whenever you’re on vacation, on a business trip, staying over with friends or family. Compared to free weights the bands maintain the resistance throughout both the concentric (lifting portion) and eccentric (lowering portion) of the movement. The resistance bands advantage in range of motion will promote increased muscle strength and stimulate growth. Compared to free weights, resistance bands can lead to improvements in strength and body fat loss by over 30 percent.</p>
<p>Another benefit is that the bands are easier on the joints compared to free weights. This reduces the chance of joint pain and the risk of injuries associated with free weights. This is great for people who want to exercise after recovering from injuries or have range of motion issues from joints.</p>
<p>If you want something better then weights that is cheap and portable then try out resistance bands. You won&#8217;t have an excuse not to do so.</p>
